i appreciate good, smart, interesting-looking advertising. i just don't want my work to ever be mistaken for such. when  i see a work of visual art that looks like there should be some sort of logo somewhere on it, it leaves me rather blah.

if this aversion leads me to make work that's a little gritty for a lot of people's tastes, i'm ok with that. i think it would be a loss for us if we allow our expectations of what art can be to become so accustomed to the established aesthetics of graphic design, that we forget what raw really means or looks like.
